Here Corbu says that in December, on the occasion of the world championships, the new weight categories will be announced. He says that the proposal he saw does not convince him: he says that the new categories favor some "friends".

It talks about 7 weight categories and gives an example of some female categories: 48kg, 55 or 56kg, 65kg 71kg, 78kg.

Nino Pizzolato underwent surgery and, upon his return, immediately took a doping test. According to Corbu Pizzolato, he has taken more than 20 tests this year.

Interesting thing: Italy (and other nations) had a very high injury rate since 2021. They are studying why.

More interesting thing: out of 20 athletes there were 7-8 cases of myocarditis (like the one in Miserendino).

Weight categories are intensely political, always. Last time the categories were changed, the leaked recommendations developed off evidence were totally thrown away and replaced by the current ones.

Myocarditis could possibly be caused by a viral infection (e.g. cold, influenza, COVID-19) spreading around the team. In most cases, myocarditis is acute and self-resolving. If it's chronic then there is a serious problem, but that's rare.

The high injury rate since 2021 should be fairly obvious, if I'm going to be honest. People pushing too hard, too soon, too long, too often. Periodisation is dead. The Tokyo and Paris qualification systems were much more intense than previous qualification systems, it's not surprising that pushing for so long without much of a break has created problems.

I thought classes were going to wait until the IOC decided the WL '28 scope, i.e. number of medals and athletes.

From corbu's words it seems that the categories will be made official in december and then the number of olympic categories will be decided (4-5 or 7).

I also think it was a sort of "small viral epidemic", also because the athletes live in a sort of isolated community. Even for the European Championships in Poland there are athletes who have flu problems and maybe they won't do the competition (it's not even known if they will leave for Poland).

Corbu also complains about the doping controls of other nations, which are not so transparent. For example, there are states where the top officials of the federation are responsible for the doping laboratories of their countries, as happens for example in the United States.

Obviously there is still work to be done to prove that he has matured...

Yes, that was passed off as a youthful prank. Evidently it was just the warning sign of deviant behavior (if the charges are confirmed). What a pity.

Any news about the new weight classes?

According to Corbu they will be announced during the world championships. If so, we will have little to wait, but I am very curious!
