Bud Charniga has passed away. He contributed a lot to the sport regardless of whether you agreed or disagreed with him, it's a big loss.

Nooo...

Even if one may not agree with what he wrote, he deserves credit for having spread in the West several Russian texts (I have alla of them) and a culture of weightlifting that did not exist before, I think.

RIP

Seeing reports that Norair Nurikyan from Bulgaria has passed away. 2 time Olympic Gold medalist and Bulgarian Head Coach after Abadjiev. One of the original great Bulgarian lifters.

That's really sad about Chemerkin. I friended him on FB, he seemed to be a real fun loving family man now - lots of pictures of him playing with his grandkids. He'd lost a lot of weight and looked in reasonably good health.

When it comes to lifts you remember, his final attempt in Sydney is obviously up there, and also his 230 clean that he just held in his arms because his front rack was so tight.

I feel bad for his family.

By all accounts, a gentle and friendly man. He kept active after his retirement but bad luck can happen to anyone. He is one of my favourite supers of all time, and really embodied the traits of what it is to be a super. Disrespecting 230 like he did in Sydney is absurd.
