The Sanctions Thread

Further sanction due to participation during period of ineligibility.

I normally wouldn't post a minor domestic positive like this but the excuse given publicly that the substance detected was due to T1D medical equipment contamination is interesting, given that what was detected was a metabolite of drostanolone.

Re: The Sanctions Thread
I thought he was retired...
Re: The Sanctions Thread
One can see how the mind could become fertile with conspiracy theories.
Re: The Sanctions Thread
I am aware that you are likely not suggesting anything in particular, but I don't see any actual evidence to suggest any basis for such. I'm sure people will make all sorts of things up.
I would not be surprised if he unretired and came back for the same reason many athletes come back, it's the only thing they know. There are occasionally other reasons like personal problems, but that is a reflection of the aforementioned status.
Re: The Sanctions Thread
The hive mind of weightlifting land will do what it does - certainly there is further information that goes beyond what was published previously about his retirement due to his claim that he had not been paid for months.strapping wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 11:36 pmI am aware that you are likely not suggesting anything in particular, but I don't see any actual evidence to suggest any basis for such. That was a year ago. Fast forward to this October, he was still subject to testing (as you say, he may have unretired) and has apparently tested positive. *shrug emoji*
Re: The Sanctions Thread
What's the theoretical conspiracy? Not getting it.
Re: The Sanctions Thread
That one lifter is used as a sacrificial offering to appease the testing gods in order for another to be passed over. The retiring one making most sense. I dont believe it myself but in a world where dopplegangers are used, I can see why people would entertain the idea.

The lion does not concern himself with the opinions of many weightlifters
Re: The Sanctions Thread
There were some issues after the Olympics in 2024 concerning delayed prize money, but they got resolved quickly and this was not the main reason for Bozhidar Andreev to take a sabbatical from weightlifting. He wanted to take a break, he married his girlfriend shortly after Paris, he wanted to have time for his family.
As an Olympic medalist he was eligible for a lifetime Olympic pension which is worth more than a 1500 EUR net per month. In order to get the pension he had to fill up documents with Ministry of Sport that he quit sport. He did it. His wife got pregnant, he has a kid now.
In the late summer of 2025 we got the first reports that he is considering to return to the sport.
He told the media in an interview that if everything in the federation continues as according to the current routine as of late summer (Stefan Botev stays in charge), he will be considering to lift in Batumi in 2026.
In the Bulgarian federation we have two opposing camps with Bozhidar Andreev and his coach Bratoychev supporting Stefan Botev - current president who was not reelected on 15.12.2025. We have a new president Asen Zlatev, whose election is currently on hold subject to judicial decision. Karlos Nasar supports Zlatev. A complete mess that will not end soon.
Bozhidar Andreev's doping offence is a bit of a shock. He has not participated in any competition since Paris Olympics.
Probably Bratoychev and Botev listed him as a probable Batumi contestant. That's why he got tested.
Today Andreev explained to the media that he took the drug on purpose and with full consciousness of the possible consequences.
He said that he and his wifer were in trouble to get her pregnant and this drug was the way to get a child. He opted to have a kid and to risk his sports career.
True or not, this is what we get as an explanation as of today.
He said today that he has disclosed full information to the doping officials and now it's up to them to decide. He will accept his ban. If it shorter than 4 years, he says that he intends to return to the sport.
We'll see how it unfolds.

1. WHAT PROVIRON IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Proviron balances a deficiency in androgen formation that starts to gradually decreases with an increase in age.
Therefore, Proviron is suitable for the treatment of all conditions caused by the deficient formation of
endogenous androgens.
Disorders due to androgen deficiency :
Decreased physical activity, rapid fatigability, decreased memory and concentration, libido and potency
disturbances, irritability, insomnia, tendency to depression, vegetative disturbances in general. All these states
of insufficiency can be the consequence of an androgenic deficit and disappear or improve through treatment
with Proviron.
Proviron suppresses potency disturbances due to androgen deficiency. When other isolated or coadjuvant
etiological factors exist, Proviron may be prescribed as additional medication.
Hypogonadism :
Proviron stimulates the growth, development and function of effector organs under androgenic influence, as
well as the development of secondary male sexual characteristics in cases of pre-pubertal androgen
insufficiency.
Proviron eliminates the symptoms after puberty originated by the loss of sexual gland function.
Infertility :
Both oligospermia and Leydig cell insufficiency may be the cause of infertility. Proviron increases the number
of spermatozoa and improves their quality by raising and normalizing fructose concentration in the ejaculate.
All of this contributes to increase fertilization possibilities
