There is a significant problem in Kenya in particular with positive tests right now.

Every now and then this excuse is deployed. Not weightlifting related but its one of the more, interesting, doping cases.

Wow!

The problem of possible contamination (without having any kind of effects) is actually very big.

In Italy we had a similar problem with Sinner.

Yeah Kenya has a long history with doping, I think over 300 banned athletes in the last 10 years. It's only natural I guess, the people are poor, the talent pool is huge/competitive and the rewards are enormous. They've even published publicly available researchon it.

The difficulty of detecting rHuEPO in competition obviously makes things harder given EPO doping is likely rife in Kenya amongst more well resourced athletes. The poorer ones just get popped for nandrolone.

Athletics has always been the answer as to why I think weightlifting getting kicked out of the Olympics has little to do with doping, in a direct sense. Doping is bad PR, but it's only unacceptable if people get caught or if it doesn't bring in money/viewership.

Here's an unusual one. Pakistan with a pair of support personnel given 4 year bans for tampering.

This is not a new case, just the finishing up of the Pakistan case from 2021.

So lets see how consistent on this IWF will be, Ukraine got off lightly.
