(it wouldn't necessarily explain Lyu though)
You would think so. And you're right, I can't imagine Lyu was doing so much aerobic work that it would cause a false positive under these circumstances. It does call to question the interpretation of how EPO testing is done.

Wow, what an overwhelming surprise /s

To be entirely fair, the Indian team does look cleaner now than when they were pissing lava a few years ago. Probably unrelated, the guy who went from MRI > RSA > INA > IND is now in KSA. Seemed to be blocked out of any actionable power in Indian WL via bureaucracy/politics, not that I have much sympathy for the guy. Lets see if KSA cleans up under him.

I think that China was training at a facility in the mountains or something, could that be a contributing factor if the lab methodology was wrong?

You would probably know better than I, but does endurance training (with or without hypoxia) increase EPO? Not working in S&C any more, haven't kept up to date.

I could do a pubmed search but sport science is barely a science and I don't want to do a lit review for a forum comment. I am under the impression that only hypoxia (with or without exercise) would have a reasonable effect size on EPO levels, with endurance training having inconsistent and/or small effects on erythropoiesis.

This summarises the lab mistakes quite well.

I'm not sure of the biochemical ins and outs of EPO anti-doping procedure, but it appears that some of the experts Bol has consulted(e.g. Erik Boer) disagree with the methodology that WADA (and subsequently, SIA) use for EPO testing.

The Norwegian team of experts have also previously disputed anti-doping decisions for EPO in Steven Colvert's case and Boer gave evidence for André Cardoso's (cyclist) case at CAS.

Both appeals were rejected, despite an absolute lack of due process from Sport Ireland and WADA in the Colvert case. Perhaps this is a bit cynical but I also don't think that CAS would look kindly upon these experts given their criticisms of WADA as an association - both CAS and WADA/ITA are children of the IOC and the IOC really doesn't like bad press.

I think there's a strong likelihood that end result for Bol (or Lyu) will remain unchanged unless WADA changes its EPO testing procedures.

Its another example of WADA not being able to get out of its own way.

You would think that post McLaren report, plus a spate of lab de-affiliations around the world, including Rio a year out from the 2016 games, and then the utter shit-show that testing was for that event - processes would be beyond reproach.

Its for that reason I wish they would dispense with the platitudes about defending clean sport.

Correct on both counts.

Ukraine has dug itself into a stupid hole. If they spent same resources on teaching lifters how to jerk they would lift less but total more (than retroactive DNFs or bans).

Jiri Orsag CZE was previously sanctioned (2013-2015) for Tamoxifen, an anti-oestrogen used for side effect management of AAS obviously. This boldenone metabolite positive is therefore unsurprising.

Everyone who saw Rejepov's 209@81 last year knew his name would end up in this thread.

Also, for everyone curious why Akkaev/Lapikov et al. got such long suspensions, we have an answer (per ITA link): "Violation of Ineligibility". This is such a waste of money though. The RFWF is to blame for not officially "retiring" them, so they can let's say "act freely" as private persons. Now the ITA/RUSADA/etc. has to prosecute these cases even though all of these are obviously people long gone.
