You're absolutely right. I just can't read, I thought she had done it as a heavy 71
2024 Senior World Championships
Re: 2024 Senior World Championships
uncle strong
wu yan 272
Nurudinov's 242 and winning the 109s cements a deserving legacy for an athlete who IMO sometimes gets underrated. 11 years between his first and current WWC wins - 1 year longer than Naim, Leonid Taranenko and Lyu Xiaojun. However, there are mitigating factors for those 3 stopping before 11 (retirement for Taranenko, Naim and global catastrophe and post Olympic retirement for Lyu).

Re: 2024 Senior World Championships
Day 4237 of all women over 70kg lifting the same total.
Re: 2024 Senior World Championships
Factually wrong but low key agreed with this nuclear take. Bump it up to 75 and you have a deal.
Li Yan lifted above expectation, no surprise she won. As in her previous competitions, she's still a ways off Li Wenwen's leg strength and subsequently her clean and jerk.
Armenia and Iran having a party after Lasha decided to take this Worlds off.
Curious to see if any lifters test positive after this event
Re: 2024 Senior World Championships
I did not think Li Yan was capable of 149 yet or her coaches even calling for it. And I immediately thought it would be denied for press out. So good on all fronts? I'm impressed her bodyweight isn't forced with bloating bulk so far (I think she's taller than Li WW).
SHW men was high quality.

Re: 2024 Senior World Championships
Li Yan can (and should) push the snatch as much as she likes, but the clean and jerk is where the gap is to Li Wenwen. That said, her clean and jerk is improving, though her leg strength still appears well down on Li Wenwen.erpel wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 8:20 am I did not think Li Yan was capable of 149 yet or her coaches even calling for it. I don't have the stats on hand (lost on my old PC) but I remember looking at SHW women's performances and half of it is trying to be as tall as possible without having a basketballer build. My guess on ideal SHW weight gain is as it is for athletes of other classes. It's probably not a good idea to go on a dreamer bulk, you just eat enough to support improvement in training (which may be a shitload) and let bodyweight figure itself out.
If you said to me 6-7 years ago that we would be entering another golden era (or bronze at least) of superheavyweight men, I would have called you an idiot. But it does make me worry whether some athletes will be flying too close to the sun. We've been pretty spoiled with SHW men in the last year or so.
Re: 2024 Senior World Championships
Before her elbow injury Li WW could've done 150/190 already, now I'm not so sure. She did 325 to get selected for Paris and Li Yan basically matched this.
The next AWC is in China (May) so I hope they both compete there. Li WW is stronger, yes. But also slightly handicapped nowadays.
I can see Li Yan progressing to consistent 155/180 within two years.
