This is quite a good article from Brian Oliver, I learned a great deal.

I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'm with Agapitov on this one. Extracting political statements from athletes is a terrible idea. I certainly don't support Russia's military conflict in Ukraine but if a sporting organisation demanded that I sign off on that I would reject such a demand on principle. There are good reasons to hold Russia and their sport federations to account - anti-doping compliance being chief among them, but dragging in geo-political issues into it is bad.

I remember when Israel was kicked out of Seoul because of the first Intifada. Oh wait.

TCRR amendments (26 July 2023), effective immediately.
New TCRR with amendments.
Key changes
- IWF no longer recognises masters, that's the IMWA or whatever. Subsequently, the "Masters" part of any prior rules (7.3.6, 8.2, 8.6, 8.8) has been removed.
- Weigh-in is to be completed with the athlete's lifting costume on. If the athlete is overweight, 250g is subtracted. If the athlete is under the limit, no weight deduction is applied.
- The stage must be no more than 80cm (previously 100cm) above the level where the referees/jury's seats are placed.
- Athletes must wear MF issued uniforms during medal ceremonies, not allowed to bring flags or any other items onto the ceremony.
- At World Senior, Junior and Youth Championships, Olympic and Youth Olympic Games, at Continental and Regional Championships and any other World Events assigned as an Olympic Qualification Event, it is obligatory to apply VPT.

This isn't going to effect things at the international level - but lower levels of the sport it will a bit. The masters saga has been rolling on for some time and this notice today tracks back to decisions in December last year.

I'd like to agree but I'm not sure. The writing style of this post appears to be carefully crafted to be non-committal by someone with reasonable command of the English language - unlike the usual IWF publications. Perhaps I'm too cynical, but I would suspect the appointment of the "interim CEO" is simply placing one of the few existing employees in as a figurehead.
-
The gender policies, borrowed heavily from UCI guidelines are IMO overly complicated and thus are unnecessarily difficult to process on the athletes' side and consistently enforce on the association/federation side. The prior IOC guidelines were not perfect, but they were practical and enforceable.
Broadly, I feel like it's currently a non-issue with lacking strength of evidence to support any particular legislature regulating physiological variables. There are very real barriers in women's sports (barriers to participation, lack of women in higher level roles), and then there's the imaginary "dominance" of trans women. The only notable medically transitioned athlete in weightlifting thus far has been Laurel Hubbard, n=1 is insufficient. There are other medically transitioned lifters, who are all insignificant. And what high level international championship did Laurel dominate? (nothing)
More to the point, don't the IWF have better things to do with their time?

Various members of the Commonwealth/Oceania Masters bodies (e.g. Coffas, Tom Liaw) have set up a new federation called the "United Masters Weightlifting Federation" (UMWF) as an alternative to the International Masters Weightlifting Association (IMWA).
I don't have much knowledge of it behind the scenes but it's quite apparent that the IMWA has had issues - what comes of this federation (good or bad) remains to be seen.
