What is this quote.
adhd zoomer brain go brr
both of them are in the same struggle, fighting a losing battle against time and against their previous totals in prior weight classes

But... one of them is not like the other. The syntax is not the problem here.

(before this session I may even have agreed that both should retire)

That's true but I have little faith in Tian Tao replicating this performance in the clean and jerk. The snatches haven't looked great and for no particularly obvious reason.

I could be totally off base, but I don't think Tian Tao will have it in him to do the 397 total to take the spot, even given multiple competitions and the possibility that the total goes up higher.

also tbh i wrote that prior to CJs and i absolutely did not expect the 222 to work at all

Wang Zhouyu just looks like pushing through the pain of whatever is going on with her knee is just a little too much right now, but this battle with Xiomei is going to make for several great competitions coming up.

Provisional OQR pos 10 total = 245, which equals current 9th. However KIM Suhyeon KOR in 9th did that as a 76kg lifter.

Snatches
NAGASHIMA Wakana JPN does 95/100/105x.
MUNKHJANTSAN Ankhtsetseg MGL did 106/108x/108, about what was expected.
KIM Iseul KOR did 100/105/107, great attempt selection and lifted well.
HOSSEINI Seyedehelham IRI did 101/105x/106.

WANG Zhouyu CHN having a strange snatch session (115x/115x/115), where it looked like she forgot how to hold the bar overhead or was in pain? (probably of the knee, given singular knee sleeve)

She got a little rocked off balance on the first and second but nothing dramatic, then just dropped it. Weird. Made the third though, so she doesn't bomb.

LIANG Xiaomei CHN clearly the favourite in the snatch session, going 113, 118 120kg and making all of them well. But so did LIAO Guifang.

Clean and Jerks
NAGASHIMA Wakana JPN takes 125, 130 (new youth WR), 135kg. Total 235, also YWR.
MUNKHJANTSAN Ankhtsetseg made her135kg 1st attempt and pulled out - leaving her with 243kg, which isn't enough to qualify her for Paris.
WANG Zhouyu looks like she's continuing to have injury issues, doing 140/146/151x. Buried in the last one.
LIANG Xiaomei takes 140/150/155, cruising to victory. Boring (ok maybe 3rd attempt was kinda hard).

Opinion:
this class was kinda mid except for Nagashima's YWRs and Liang Xiaomei clean and jerking a bit more than LIAO Guifang

Liang X. can do 159@81 (thought the coaches would try here). Wang Z. will be backup for this quad and I don't think she will even better this 275 from today. If Koanda NOR totals 270+ at the WWC though I can see CHN not selecting either for Paris.

Munkhjantsan MGL has the same totals from like way back @69 to @87. Even if not technically true, it sure feels like it.

Surprise of the day is Tian CHN being over 90% of his former peak self. A 222 jerk that holds was certainly impossible, or so I thought. Li CHN can snatch 3-4kg more at this weight, but his C&J is limited to <220.

edit: rewatched Liang's snatches, really enjoyed them. Fluid 120. (try more coach)

M89 provisional qualifying total: 364, obviously at that BW
M102 provisional qualifying total: 380

i spent half of the snatch session at the supermarket
korean dj continues to be a menace, i continue to find it amusing
LIU Huanhua CHN supposedly weighed in at 89.43kg, not official.

Snatches
AL LAMI QASIM HASAN IRQ takes 161/167/172x.
WON Jeongbom KOR takes 165/170x/171
MATYAKUBOV Shahzadbek TKM does 160/165/168x

SUMPRADIT Sarat THA opens on 169 and smokes it.
LIU Huanhua CHN opens on 170 and misses (he forgor). He takes 170 again and makes it. Not hard, but technically rough.
SUMPRADIT Sarat THA takes 173 and does a good, well co-ordinated basically maximal lift.
LIU Huanhua CHN takes 175 and stays much more connected than 170, good lift.
SUMPRADIT Sarat THA takes 176 and gets it overhead, but it's too unstable as he's wobbling with his ultra wide grip and he loses it behind.

Clean and Jerks
AL LAMI QASIM HASAN IRQ goes 3/3 on 191, 195, 198. The 198 was a great weightlifter's lift. Technically alright but every single stage of that was difficult and he gritted through it.

POLUBOYARINOV Denis KAZ took 190, missed 196 (equal to YWR) and missed 197.
WON Jeongbom KOR takes 205 to open as well, and absolutely nails it.
SUMPRADIT Sarat takes 206 but misses. He goes up to 207 and makes the lift, ending with 380.

LIU Huanhua CHN took 210 to open. This was a good opener, the clean was kinda hard but the jerk was good. Not easy, but good.
211 brings out WON for his 2nd attempt. Good but hard clean, goes for the jerk but he tried to bench it. No lift. Takes it again and this time uses his legs. Total 382. This places WON 9th for M102 but if China nopes out of 102kg, WON moves up to 8th.

LIU Huanhua then jumps to 223 for his second attempt. He manages to stand up a very hard clean caught to his left. Goes for the jerk but doesn't quite finish it off and buckles in the receiving position.

He takes it for the final attempt and manages to rack it (again to the left) but can't stand it up. End of session. LIU totals 385.

Thoughts/Opinions
"Chinese Gigachad" nickname for LIU Huanhua CHN goes into storage indefinitely/until he becomes enough of a household name that it becomes appropriate to use again. Also people who are unfunny on the internet will flog a dead horse hard enough to half-reanimate it, let it rest.

222 would have probably brought the same fate to Liu Huanhua, may as well go 223 as an attempt to 1-up Tian Tao.

AL LAMI QASIM HASAN IRQ last competed at a 69kg lifter in 2016, aged 16. Wild gap between events.

I reiterate, the Korean DJ continues to be a menace to society. This has gone on since the opening ceremony. Thumbs up from me.

yes this, at least make an attempt to one up the lifter an entire category/10kg below you
erpel wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 1:38 pm Wang Z. will be backup for this quad and I don't think she will even better this 275 from today.
I think she can if she's healthy. So I agree, I don't see her doing >268-270 this quad. I'd be surprised if she does >265.
erpel wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 1:38 pm If Koanda NOR totals 270+ at the WWC though I can see CHN not selecting either for Paris.
Yep, 71 looks like the overwhelming choice if LIAO Guifang stays healthy.

W59 is too contentious if a healthy Kuo shows up. W81 is murkier in all fairness, with a variety of unknowns including Koanda and others.

Of course China won't decide until the day before they actually have to (as every other team does).

the vibe is real and it's sad

heart attack tao uses "very good squat jerk technique" (1 PP, 10% accuracy). it's super effective!
Seriously I did not expect him to make an excellent jerk, I expected him to yeet himself under the bar with the head buried to the floor and lose it behind.

I think Li Dayin is capable of more during this quad, but I don't think so much in terms of the snatch.
I think maybe 181-182 max this quad and I agree C+J will be <220 (my guess ~218).
Too inconsistent with both his cleans (racking them properly and not seeing stars) and jerks (byproduct + jumping behind the bar).

If that BW is correct, that's an impressive (because unnecessary) cut. 223 looked not impossible which is astounding.

I am guessing Huanhua competing at Worlds at 89 will be dependent on how well he does with internal events in the next few months.
