What do you think the chances are of a live stream of African Championships from Tunisia?
Start list is out.https://iwf.sport/wp-content/uploads/do ... 3-SAWC.pdf
I wouldn't mind seeing what Neama Said, Sara Ahmed, Karim Abokahla and Faris Touairi do - particularly Abokahla. He went 171/212 at Med games last year at 89kg, Pizzolato needed 172/213 to beat him.
African Championships
Re: African Championships
The Tunisian Weighlifting Federation did a live stream on their Facebook page.
It seems day 1 wasn't streamed though, day 2 VOD here.
So far, LAWAL Rafiatu Folashade NGR 59kg has done 91x/91/95 + 115x/115/122 = 217, placing her 9th after Asian/African Champs.
She uh, looks very dry and skin tight. Similar to Konotop at Euros this year. Will be interesting to see if (either) results remain.

Re: African Championships
Interesting, Azerbaijan lifting as guests. It figures considering that they pulled out of Euros. I'm actually glad the IWF accommodated that.
Re: African Championships
Hi everybody.
Is there any link to the results of the African Championships??
Thank you

Provisional OQR 10th = 332, qualifying total = 333.
BEN HNIA Karem TUN did 146/149x/149x + 180/187x/187x = 326.
146 looked close to maximal, 149 looked capable but just not mentally/technically there.
2nd attempt CJ failed for unknown reason (timed out or just mentally checked out of lifting it?). 3rd was a deadlift.
W81kg
Sara AHMED EGY hit a very good 117 snatch + 151 clean and jerk, 268 total. Moves her from #3 81kg (@76) to #2.
Both lifts look like she was capable of ~2-3kg more, given her historical intensity-difficulty curve. A big improvement over Bogota (BW 74.4) physically and technically. Probably largely due to bodyweight increase to 80.05, which you can say about athletes other than when they're American or heavily on social media (then it's because they worked so hard on their techinque!!!!!)
Obviously Egypt has a big doping history including in recent years (and she has a previous positive) but she doesn't look megasauced, just mildly sauced but 6kg thicker and much stronger for it. IMO she was capable of 272-275 today.
We'll see if the results remain, as it goes for all of the countries with long doping histories.
M89kg
ABOKAHLA Karim EGY, 162/167x/167 + 200/208/213x, 375 total.
213 was an African record Jerk attempt. Not sure how he missed, the slideshow presentation wasn't very illustrative.
Provisional OQR #6.
M102kg
They're not top 10 but maybe good enough for the Tripartite commission to put in a Universality spot or whatever it's called.
The other (non-African) contender could be Don OPELOGE SAM/OCE, who has historically done 381@96 in 2022, but most recently did 370 (160/165x/165 + 200/205x/205) at 101.2kg.
Given that Africa is a stronger continent than Oceania and OPELOGE is one of Oceania's few genuine international contenders, I would bet they'd have to beat him to be eligible for the IOC decided spot.

- SALEM Yasser Usama Hemdan Mohamed EGY 168/208/376, 6/6 lifts.
- TOUAIRI Aymen ALG, 166 (171x) + 203 (208x, 211x)

M102kgYasser Osama won this with intelligent attempt selection and not shitting the bed on the platform. Subjectively, he looked like the 3rd strongest lifter.

Re: African Championships
Looks like Bidani bombed out - missed everything except his opening snatch.
Re: African Championships
I think at the time of writing that comment, it was before the supers.
I didn't get to watch the supers live as I had a work meeting throughout the women's 87/87+ and men's 109/109+.

Wsuper
ABBAS Halima Abdelazim Sedky EGY 110x/110/115 + 145x/145x/145 = 260. Down on her best, wouldnt be surprised if she had a shoulder or knee injury. Her previous best totalwas 275 in Bogota (OQR #6), so she didn't need to lift here.
Msuper
ELSAYED Abdelrahman Mohamed A. A. EGY 175/185/193x. 193 backed away and tried to sneak under before actually lifting the bar.
BIDANI Walid ALG 192/197x/199x. 197 was close but he forgot the uppiness in the down part. 199 deadlift.
Clean and jerks as mentioned, Walid BIDANI ALG 225x/225x/225x. Not sure why, the stream VOD is basically a powerpoint presentation. First one looked like zero drive, last one looked like he missed the clean. 225 is not outrageously heavy but is usually what he'll end up with at the end of a comp.
Hulk_weightlifter (EGY) clean and jerked 243 for a new African record. Video not on stream but on @egyptian_weightlifting IG. Reportedly missed 245 on his third. 428 total does not change OQR placement, he remains in 7th with his 433 total from 2022 Worlds.
Note: Walid Bidani holds the African record total on 473kg, extremely close to Lasha. Either that, or no one proofread the start list and a typo snuck through (he did 437 at the 19th Mediterranean Games).
