Preliminary entries are up for Senior Worlds in Saudi Arabia

1214 preliminary entries. It would be curious to see what that shrinks to, could still end up being the biggest event ever.

This is the earliest the IWF has ever posted entries for a major comp. 2+ months away!

There was a similar number of (very) preliminary entries prior to 2019 Worlds. The published entry list and then subsequent start list culled the numbers considerably.

Many countries enter entire teams before then sending no one; I have no idea why.

Pretty sure Huanhua was barely making the 96 class as Asian championships. Only weighed 89.43kg, I guess 96.01kg isn't that much of a jump up.

My guess is Chinese internal politics, which are of course extensive. It's not as if 102 is currently the most competitive class either.

Liu will do 180+225 at 102, lead the rankings until 2024 (because others are being weirdos), and not get selected anyway.

- bit strange/late for Djuraev now to move down again
- PRK are buffoons until proven otherwise

  • Probably yes. But also there's still another 10 months for someone to get injured and like all countries, China will wait until 31st May 2024 to submit their allocations.
  • The D in Djuraev stands for 2,4-Dinitrophenol and the F stands for food consumption. In all seriousness, I think it'd be a severe cut but not something new to him. From memory, I'm told he usually trained at about 115-118 bodyweight as a 109. It was kind of expected to be honest, Ruslan is too old and banned to be a contender for 102.
  • Yes. Also true for various other nations.
