Re: 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou China (from 30 Sept 2023)
No Shi Zhiyong. Guess we will have to wait until 2024 to see him do a clean and jerk, or a snatch without straps.
PRK I'll believe it when I see it.
It's an IWF event so one would hope for ITA testing. With some lifters/teams who are entered, that may be interesting.
Curious to see the lifts that were held back at WWC.

Entries updated (from the depths of the IWF download page).
Irawan @ M61 and Abdullah @ M73 show their priorities (not the WWC).
China without M81 entry.
Don't see Hou winning W55.

W49A opinions
- RI Song Gum PRK looks a bit bigger than last time, stronger but technique and timing is still rough (note: written during snatches).
- TANASAN Sanikun THA attempt selection was wack. Less drugs means you need to open lighter.
- SUKCHAROEN Thanyathon looked strong, as she has done last few competitions.
- Collectively the three of them look like they would test positive (OOC at minimum, maybe IC).
- CHANU Mirabai IND looked to be managing her wrist/shoulder injuries okay during snatches, but limited by back pain/strength. Also looks like she reaggravated her back in the clean and jerks; 117 for the Bronze was never in the realm of possibility.
- RAMOS Rosegie PHI went +1kg on everything she did at WWC.
- Thailand is at their 2016 level, but the 122 and 124 WR clean and jerk from Ri Song Gum PRK is a certified 2018 Thailand moment.
Re: 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou China (from 30 Sept 2023)
W55A
- Some weird entrants here. HOU Zhihui CHN competing as an overweight 49 - you'd expect China to have plenty of real 55s or better 49-turned-55s to choose from. Windy Cantika AISAH INA competing at 55 with Juliana KLARISA - but the only 49 from INA was a B group lifter. YU Wonju KOR seems to be making her international debut at 29 years old.
- Every current TPE lifter is hip thrusting the bar and looks terrible overhead, all of them look 2cm from getting hurt every lift
- PRK again coming to set world records and then disappear for another four years to evade OOC testing
- I would normally be excited for world records but this is taking the piss.
- YU Wonju KOR has fantastic snatch technique; good rhythm, good balance and strong, active fixation unlike most of their team. The same is true for her jerks, a true rarity in current SK weightlifting.
- AISAH Windy INA seems to still be suffering from the hip injury from after the Tokyo Olympics.
- KAEWNOI Natcha THA gets an honourable mention for a fantastic jerk after a murderously hard clean on her third attempt.
- coffin dance song blaring in the stadium lmao
- KANG Hyon Gyong PRK 103 WR+1, 130 WR+1, 233 total WR+6.
Re: 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou China (from 30 Sept 2023)
I don't think I can find an eyeroll emoticon large enough for today.
Re: 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou China (from 30 Sept 2023)
Makes me think back to the old 48kg class and the 121kg WR jerk that Nurcan Taylan had before it was scrubbed - legit 48kg lifters would struggle to get within 15kilos of it. Watching that 124kg rep was absolutely bananas.
Re: 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou China (from 30 Sept 2023)
Results are insane, as noted by everyone. Today Junior Kim with another senior WR at 111.
When will DPR compete again?
Will the lifts stand? The ITA is supposedly at these Games.

Anyone looking for videos, this has some:
https://www.instagram.com/shenzhenweightlifting/
Replays I only found region locked (China mainland).
---
PRC needs Shi back at 170+200 bodily function, otherwise they're not going to win M73. The country also should've sent a dedicated W55/W64 lifter (who's not on the Olympics team) to aim for a better medal and rest the others.
Abdullah INA has improved a lot since Tokyo 2020. His C&J will go higher still.
---
If you check the ITA main page they already suspended athletes (not WL) at these AG, so perhaps we'll see results changed.
