Chit-chat thread
Re: Chit-chat thread
What is the modern ratification process? I feel like 'back in the day' organizers would go to the extent of weighing the plates and bars afterwards.
Re: Chit-chat thread
If we follow the TCRR then the record is ratified "when the athlete successfully undergoes doping control" - but I don't know if this refers to the sample collection (i.e. competing day) or analysis aka many moons later.
Technically, the record is "live" when the lift was marked good, as we can see from the scoreboard. It's also officially marked on the protocol of the competition day.
I think the website delay is just a hiccup though.

Re: Chit-chat thread
Been a while since I've had the chance to catch up with weightlifting. Life is busy.
Several small, non-IWF internationals have been held, with no particularly interesting results. Rostami lifted the weights I expected a cleaned (and washed) up Rostami to lift at the Bahrain strength whatever, 157+176.
Today the Pacific Elite competition will be held with a mix of Pacific (mostly Samoan) and local city lifters.
Abbreviated results of the Nowruz games are below as per the Iranian federation.
W49kg
1. Anita Faizi (IRI): 60+85 = 145
W59kg
1. Nigora Abdulaeva (UZB): 80+100 = 180
2. Reyhaneh Karimi (IRI): 75+90 = 165
W71kg
1. Elaha Rezaghi (IRI): 94+111 = 205
2. Fateme Keshavarz (IRI): 88+111 = 199
3. Alana Skripko (RUS): 86+108= 194
W81kg
1. Sayedah Elham Hosseini (IRI): 101+124 = 225
2. Varvara Kuzminova (RUS): 102+122 = 224
3. Regina Adashbaova (UZB) : 100+115 = 215
W81+ kg
1. Tursonoy Jabarova (UZB): 105+135 = 240
2. Fateme Yousefi (IRI): 92+130 = 222
3. Zainab Sheikh Arbab (IRI): 92+125 = 217

Re: Chit-chat thread
I don't care for Youth worlds.
Re: Chit-chat thread
I agree somewhat.
I have mixed feelings about Youth Worlds, as a concept. I think it's good for younger athletes to get international competition experience, but I dislike the incentivisation to peak lifters, children, early.
I have no issues with an 8 year old getting into weightlifting per se. However, I don't want kids to lose their childhood to sport and I especially don't want child athletes pushed by little league athletics parents for ego or social media clout.
I wouldn't miss Youth Worlds if it was gone, it's different to other youth competitions at the local/national level.
Re: Chit-chat thread
As far as Youth World Championships goes, the beneficial thing to the sport may be that it grows the number of opportunities for a country to be able to medal or win a 'World Championship'.
When it comes to investment in a sport, much of it coming from government bureaucracy grants, that is a big deal. We may not be too far away as a sport from needing to lean into World Championships and less so into the Olympic games.

TL;DR Subject to international federation: Russians/Belarusians can compete as "Individual Neutral Athlete" in international events, no RUS/BLR military/national security member or war supporters allowed, no RUS/BLR teams allowed, all athletes must comply with antidoping regulations, Paris 2024/Milan 2026 games eligibility TBD.
Edit:
IWF (non) Statement
“The IWF stands in solidarity with Ukraine and supports the continued IOC sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
We have taken note of the recommendation by the IOC Executive Board that sets out strict conditions under which athletes with Russian or Belorussian passports may be permitted to compete on an individual, neutral basis in competitions governed by International Federations. We will take time to review the guidance closely in order to determine whether and how it can be applied to weightlifting.
The IWF Executive Board will provide an update once the recommendation has been fully considered.
In the meantime, the protective measures introduced last year remain in place at this time.”

Re: Chit-chat thread
No longer including the body weight in official result documents is obnoxious. It's interesting and valuable data after all. SHW composition is always curious and in an age where lifters switch between Olympic and Non-Olympic classes it gives insight there too. STUPID.
That BW is still listed on the IWF page (or easywl.com) is rather a fortunate holdover from their legacy designs, since they predate this change. I foresee an needless redesign where we can no longer access this information at all.
