2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
Re: 2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
A question: do you know if the jury table has only the frontal shot available or also other shots? I was reviewing Pizzolato's competition and the Challenge Card in the last clean and jerk was rejected because they were already starting the review.
Re: 2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
I was under the impression that there are separate cameras set up for this system, and that is the footage that is made available to the jury. They are not looking at the the tv feed. If that is the case, it can partly explain some of the decisions we debate because some infractions are more or less obvious just seeing a lower front angle.

Li WW looked very cautious and not fit compared to 145/180 several months ago. Having to save a 173 clean isn't up to par.
Park still hasn't totaled 300.
Talakhadze not retiring is a bad idea.
I'm glad we had good totals in categories without CHN(PRK) entries, in contrast to Tokyo.
The Chinese golden generation is (almost) over, next year we have the National Games again to get a contemporary assessment.
Yet to be answered: why didn't Djuraev take 228 (or 224 again)?
Everyone always forgets Peshalov as 4x OG medalist (perhaps because he changed countries).
The WWC in December will be won by North Korea.

Yes, they have a front and side view, but the angles are not the same as the TV cameras. The main purpose is to show infractions, i.e. press outs, feet not in line, not stationary, etc.
Re: 2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
As I mentioned to several people who had asked me, Li Wenwen would easily win if she was selected for the next Ganes (assuming no adverse circumstances. However, her decrease in performance leaves here wide open for being outqualified by a young, upcoming super just like she did in the pre-Tokyo qualification. She is not old, so *if* her injuries are managed and rehabilitated properly, she may still bounce back.erpel wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 7:34 am Li WW looked very cautious and not fit compared to 145/180 several months ago. Park not totalling 300 is a noted but unimportant thing to me. It's a delay, that's all. She was capable of the 300, it's just that South Korea played games (unnecessarily) instead of extending her lead.
Talakhadze needs a break at least. I still think he could win a fourth if the Armenians still have the problems they have been showing over the last quad. Whether or not pursuing that fourth is a good idea is not up to me.
Peshalov is wildly underrated and I don't know why. I think part of it comes down to physical form, unfortunately people prefer physical appearance and lifting style over results.
I am waiting for the quarterly report on anti-doping in Q2 as well as the 2023 report. Let's see how much North Korea got tested by the ITA with the new open access.
Re: 2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
With youth do you mean Park KOR or domestically for Li? Because there's already the other Li (*2004) who can do 310+. But would China pick another SHW even if WW was still good enough?
Re: 2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
Domestically, not Park. I would be surprised if Park overtakes Li Wenwen unless Li simply gets injured or ages out.
Re: 2024 Olympic Games - Paris, France
I think Park will improve to about 135/175 range. She's heavy already, so I don't think a Jang Miran trajectory is feasible (i.e. gaining 20kg and the CJ explodes).
Li WW has to lift heavy again to remain #1 selection. This risk has be weighed. Maybe it's just my head canon, but every lift she does now looks cautious to protect the right elbow.
Honestly, her state here shocked me after she was back to 145 in Thailand.
A future Park could beat a recovering Li.

I think because his overall results are still overshadowed by the all time records set by Mutlu and Naim in their careers.
