A couple of 6 for 6 performances from some fantastic outlier performers. Charlotte Simoneau from Canada 110/130 F71. Her 3rd snatch was her best rep. I hope she goes to Senior Worlds.

South Korea's Kwon Dae Hee M81 went 156/200 M81. He didnt take out the snatch gold, that went to Elsayed from Egypt, but Dae Hee's monster C&J set him apart. He didnt need the 200 to win but it was clearly a goal - love to see lifters so genuinely happy when they hit a significant landmark.

Good lifting from Nishikawa. He attempted a 208 to break Toshiki Yamamoto's national record CJ not long ago and wasn't far off, presumably his misses here were not far away either.

He gave 175 a proper go in the snatch, fully committed to getting under it but something had to give and his feet slide out sideways. He will get it eventually. His C&J at 206 was also a solid attempt, he pulled under the clean with his humping technique and as often goes with that style if its not sequenced well it compresses the shoulder/neck interface with bar pretty wickedly - started to black out before he could give the jerk a go.

Fearless competitor, I hope he is there at Senior Worlds.

Excellent lifting from Matyakubov. 180kg 3rd was close. 216 jerk was maximal and strong. The rest of the field snatched reasonably well too, 162/167/169 for BLR/BRA/EGY. Good clean and jerks from De Souza up to 215, 6/6.

SARRIA RUIZ Marifelix CUB wins the Junior women's supers with 270 which would have placed 7th at the Olympics.

She was previously provisonally sanctioned for Boldenone by the Central Carribean Games federation, but was acquitted after it was found that she had neither fault nor negligence in this case (probably contamination?).

Will we ever see them (her and her brother) compete on an international stage again? I don't know why but I expected them at this championship...

It depends on whether their parents can pull their heads out of their asses. They had all sorts of problems with the Canadian federation (i.e. impossible demands were, unsurprisingly, not met).

The Spanish WL licence requires proof of residence for foreigners. They don't live in Spain. You can make the argument they are Spanish citizens (mother is Spanish).

A step forward towards a clean sport?

It did cross my mind that whilst improvements in anti doping are good, and drug-free sport is a never-ending chore, there is still 14.4% of athletes at a worlds who have not been subject to an out of competition test in the 6 months prior to a world championship.

As the article details, some of that is explained by the categorisation of countries into lower and higher risk of doping infractions - I think 14.4% is still a large number of lifters for a worlds when we are talking 6 months.
