But did anyone understand what happened with the Miserendino's second clean and jerk attempt?
I was following the competition and noticed that the coaches got distracted, when they went to the table, the change was denied by the TO.

6.6.12 Before the first attempt and between two attempts the Team Official / athlete must
notify and sign the next attempt on the Athlete’s Card; both for declaration and
automatic increment. This signature enables two (2) changes.
If the Team Official / athlete fail to do so before the final call (30 seconds), the
athlete will be called according to the automatic progression.
When an athlete is taking consecutive attempts (2 minutes allocated time), the
Team Official / athlete must declare the next attempt within the first thirty (30)
seconds after being called, even if it is the automatic increment.
Failure to do so will forfeit the two (2) changes allowed. The athlete will then have
to take the automatic increment. (See TCRR 7.10)

Ok, thank you! So was a matter of time, a very silly mistake.

Why PRK women's results are ridiculous while PRK men's are merely "good" needs an investigative report funded by the WHO.

Pak Pyol closely missing 191 to make 341@67 at his first international comp is pretty ridiculous. Otherwise I agree; I would guess something to do with high drug dosing/tapering off for competition.

PRK testing figures from the ITA reports
Q1-Q3 2023 - no testing.
Q4 2023 PRK 24 athletes tested, 1-2 times each.
Q1 2024, 13 PRK athletes tested. High performers from PRK tested 3 times, others once. 45kg lifter tested 4 times.
Q2 2024: 18 PRK athletes tested. High performers twice, others once.
Q3 2024: no testing, as expected.

There is OOC testing being done (clearly), but whether it's actually OOC with unfettered access to North Korea or simply testing them whilst they are at the event on non-competition days is an open question.

  • PRK makes weightlifting a clown show almost as much as the IWF does. I still have the non PRK WRs committed to memory and I can't remember what the PRK WRs are. Their lifters are great lifters, but they are playing a different game to everyone else.
  • Chinese team is, as expected, not a B team but a mix of random lifters for what are probably political reasons.
  • 405 for Nasar is pretty spectacular; even with the usual caveats. People will still forget that Vardanian did 405@82.5 and Solodov did 422.5@90, though they're not equivalent for obvious reasons.
  • Olivia Reeves beating YANG Qiuxia is 100% expected and same with JONG Chun Hui. I hope she moves up to 77, 69 is too small for her IMO.
That said, I've been wrong before. You never know what category will suit someone until they try it out.
  • Indonesian 73s showing up out of shape/peak is not a surprise. Rizki had maybe 2 weeks of training?
  • This competition so far, we've gone from no women's squat jerk world records ever to two WRs (W45 Sr, W55 JWR)

I think the women's squat jerk records are anomalies and only due to the relatively lighter weight on the barbell. Heavier barbells and greater oscillation will not lend themselves to the squat jerk.

PRK may be playing a different game, but that 218 jerk was phenomenal work.

I spoke to one of the ITA staff in Bahrain a few days ago, they are doing testing in North Korea, but its with notice as the testers have to apply for entry to the country. Same protocol occurs with Iran. He obviously didn't disclose the time specifics but basically we should expect more competitive outings from the North Korean team this quad.

BW of 76.14 for a 5kg PB.

Not an improvement, just return to form.
