The Sanctions Thread

Post by strapping »

Rip erpizzle

Since I last remember WLForums being up, we've had a thing or two.

Most recently 4 positives prior to 2022 World Championships.

Ahmed Emad Mohamed (EGY) tested positive for human growth hormone (hGH).

Zacarias BONNAT (DOM) tested positive for RAD140, a SARM.

Bohdan TARANENKO and Ruslan KOZHAKIN (UKR) tested positive for trimetazidine, a phenylethylamine/fatty acid oxidation inhibitor. Banned as a hormonal/metabolic modulator.

I don't remember the month of the last RUSADA update I posted, so I just leave this link instead:

https://www.rusada.ru/en/news/disqualification/

They update regularly, for all sports obviously, but it's easy to find WL.

Though the names you probably haven't heard before as they're almost all merely national level lifters.

It did cross my mind that some of the lower results at this years worlds could be attributed to more than just the altitude and travel - that fear of ITA testing was significant.

Before I forget, I saw a pic from World Masters in Florida the other day and there was a Doping Control Officer wearing a HUNADO hoodie - I thought after the McLaren report they had been given the flick. What's up with that?

They were "exonerated" by McLaren unfortunately.

IWF still contracts to the cheapest labor I guess. It should not be this way, the in person interaction is still the biggest loophole.

Unfortunately, there are limitations to such a report.

HUNADO was exonerated due to a lack of evidence against them. Adamfi and many others should have been given the flick too, but such is life.

In terms of extremity of news, I was tempted to compare this to Ilya getting popped but the difference there obviously is the shear number of positives that came from the 2008-2012 re-tests.

This seems so different in so many ways. A positive from China, in China! Is there a conspiracy going on here? Something internal to sport in China? And this is for EPO!?!!! EPO has a short detection range doesn't it? Was Liao Hui even the last positive for China? Was this connected to him cutting bodyweight?

So many questions.

EPO is certainly a surprising positive. The fact that it was an out of competition test may be why he was caught for it.
You do have to wonder if it was political - there were rumours that Liao Hui's positive was political when that happened but rumours are rumours.

I don't think EPO is strictly an "endurance" drug - increasing hematocrit could potentially aid with recovery, not just of muscles but also of connective tissue. That's a significant concern when you're old years old and trying to make a cameo in Paris.

However, the old school way of increasing EPO is much better for weightlifting performance (anabolic androgenic steroids).
