List of predictions as below. Extremely lukewarm and safe.
  • Lots of weigh-in only athletes amongst the top 6 for each class. The only athletes lifting will be those on the precipice of the top 10 or battling a national teammate for their slot.
  • Women's continental slots: W49 MAD (MAD vs PNG), W59 MHL, W71 AUS, W81 double tripartite, W81+ double tripartite or SAM
  • Men's continental slots: M61 PNG, M73 TUN (TUN vs MAD), M89 AUS, M102 SAM (SAM vs USA), M102+ NZL (SAM vs NZL)
  • There will be some extremely strange attempt selection amongst those who are battling over a slot, including taking less or more than they need for the slot.
  • Many lifters will not break their prior PBs.
  • The IWF will try to farm sponsors given that the World Cup is a cash grab.
  • Some random idiot will test positive, not necessarily a top 10 contender.
  • Many athletes will try to make a PR case for universality slots.
  • Arley Mendez will continue to compete despite being ineligible for OG.
  • The Fr*nch will send M73/M89/M102+, W59/ W71 or W81 (maybe top 10)
  • North Korea will be cringe

To what extent does the World Cup decide who China sends to Paris? Or is the final decision a tapestry of individual contemporaneous performance, competitor performance and chinese politics?

Set are Li M61, Liu M102 and Jiang W49. Shi Zhiyong will not go. M89: Tian Tao will only go if he totals a WR, not if he makes e.g. 170+224.

Everyone assumes Li Wenwen is picked already, but we don't know her elbow health or lack thereof. I'd wager they want to see a 310 total here to reassure her choice.

Luo W59 will attempt to total 248 for a WR to be on equal footing to Liao W71 and Liang W81 (these two already have the respective total WR). But nobody really knows how they'll chose between these three.

Nothing is confirmed until 31 May 2024, China will not make their decision until shortly before that date.

Shit happens. For one, I did not expect Deng Wei to miss the Tokyo Olympics until China submitted their team without her. I would expect the injury was pretty severe, given that I think she could've won with minor injuries. Things can also happen outside of the gym, pretty sure that Moulaei didn't plan getting into a car accident.

Philippines get the OK for competing at the Paris Olympics after their NADO was cleared of non-compliance.

Squat Jerk Journalist reporting the entries from Team China.

Women
49kg Hou Zhihui
59kg Luo Shifang
81kg+ Li Wenwen

Men
61kg Li Fabin
73kg Shi Zhiyong
102kg Liu Huanhua

I think those give them the best chance to maximize their medal haul.

Liao Guifang is a strange choice... Liang Xiaomei seems a little bit ahead of her rivals than Liao Guifang.

But there is something I can't understand:

Here the French athletes are not listed. So France must use its host spots even for athletes in top 10?
