The competition platform lighting for Pan Americans is basically a disco.

Pan Am M73
Both MOSQUERA Luis COL and MAYORA Julio VEN snatched well, up to 153 and 154 respectively. Clean and jerks were opened heavy, at 180 for Mosquera and 184 for Mayora. Mosquera misses his opener and 2nd attempt with strong cleans but totally unstable overhead, then moves up to 184. Mayora misses 184 twice, pointing to his head as if to say he mentally backed out of it. He drove the bar in front and his body behind, so that seems the likeliest cause.

Mosquera takes 184 for his 3rd attempt and does a hard clean, followed by a stronger but maximal looking jerk. He seems to be disappointed in his performance but also relieved. Mayora makes the same mistake in the 3rd jerk, bombs out.

I believe 337 for Mosquera puts him in OQR #8 following the continentals.

Dajomes, great snatching 115, 118, 121. Silly miss on opening jerk at 141. Will need to improve that to be genuine medal threat in Paris. She looks good for a 265 total or more.

Pan Ams
M89
  • SANTAVY Boady CAN snatched 168/173x/173x, withdrew from jerks.
  • MENDEZ Arley CHI 5/6 snatched 165/168x/170, jerked 205. He is, as it currently stands, not eligible for Paris as he did not compete at 2023 WWC. I don't know if we'll ever get an answer as to why (or the 2022 WWC incident that shall not be mentioned).
  • LOPEZ Yeison COL had a casual day out, snatching 175 (didn't take a 3rd) and clean and jerking 207 to sweep the medals.
W81
  • DAJOMES Neisi ECU snatched well, missed/made 141 but unable to make the 146 (145 needed) to take the Ecuadorian team slot from SALAZAR Tamara 265.
  • Stylistically, Dajomes' leg strength seems to have gone down slightly despite the increase in bodyweight, though her pulling strength looks the same and hamstring strength improved. I wouldn't be surprised if she's had a quadriceps tear or a knee issue at some point in the qualification period. Shit unfortunately happens in sports.
  • Salazar has maintained her leg strength from ~85-86 BW but seems to have developed more pulling power since Tokyo. Not sure why she wasn't listed to defend her slot at Pan Ams, Neisi Dajomes looked (just about) capable of taking it away from her.

I don't understand this line from Brian Oliver 'Nations can send only one athlete per weight category. He's making it sound like thats a rule at the World Cup rather than the Olympics.

I had read somewhere that Salazar had been injured, so I just assumed she was not going to be ready for competing right now. Sounds like a bit of a mess. https://iwf.sport/2024/02/28/caracas-da ... ng-mix-up/

And the Equatorian Super-Heavy AYOVI CABEZAS Lisseth Betzaida ,who sits at 6th place in the ranking, seems to have injured herself in the last clean at the Pan Ams, sliding feet and a big fall ,twisted the knees in a very awkward position

I cant recall seeing a rep missed like that. That would have been a tremendous shock, she might be okay, her hips looked like they have some pretty good internal hip rotation range.

I've seen similar situations once or twice before but it's very uncommon. Last time it was a torn ankle LCL, not sure what the issue was this time. Looked to me like the feet just slipped - very odd for a competition platform.
