Given that they will all be running throughout Feburary, I thought I'd make a singular thread for all continental championships. Continental championships listed by start date. Links or documents will be updated in the post as they are made available.

African Championship. Ismalia, Egypt, 2-10 Feb 2024

Please post any (legal) video or stream links here. Note that using a VPN to circumvent geoblocking is legal in most countries.
Illegal streams are not to be posted publicly on this forum.

I do not see anything scheduled on the Olympic channel thus far.

Asian W49
  • No remarkable results wrt Olympic qualification.
  • PRK new WR again, pure clown shit. One sure hopes that the ITA not only has open access, but actually uses it.
  • 95+125 is 1kg off Tian Yuan's W48 Chinese record 221 (95+126). A lifter from an era that showed Chinese dominance both in numbers and whilst clearly showing signs/symptoms of anabolic steroid use.
Asian M61/W55/M67/W59 unremarkable, PRK world records notwithstanding (I do not count them as part of the same competition).

Weightlifting Africa Championships Day 1 (W45/49, M55, W55, M61, W59, M67) had no notable results from an Olympic qualifiying perspective.

M73 Asians
  • I think Lee Sangyeon forgot to cut to 67 and just sits at 73 naturally.
  • Instagram live streaming via phone with Spanish/Korean/Indonesian commentary has been my favourite way of watching big events for the last two years.
  • Indonesia having a party without Shi Zhiyong. Strange no lift on Rahmat's 153 1st attempt, but Rizki Juniansyah snatched an excellent 3/3 up to 158 and Rahmat coming back down to 159 for his third to take the lead. IMO Rizki looked capable of 160, Rahmat maybe 162-164.
  • Rizki takes 180/187 and 195 third attempt for a very hard clean and successful jerk, hitting an international PB at 73kg. Rahmat takes 192 to warm up, jumps straight to 202 ignoring the win and taking the WR, then takes 204 for another WR.
  • 363 total is not only vastly out of reach for every other competitor, but it's also only 1kg below the WR total. We will probably see it broken at the World Cup or the Olympics. Hell, we may have seen it today if his first attempt snatch wasn't declined.
  • Rizki had appendicitis requiring surgical removal several months ago (wasn't posted until recently) and has returned to training for about a month.
  • Rahmat would snatch 170 if he did not play League of Legends.
M89 Africans Karim ABOHKALA EGY did 381 to take OQR #6, African results otherwise unremarkable. Joy Ogbonne EZE will need more than 234 to qualify for Nigeria.

Rizki is one of those lifters who make me think twice about whether the 1 lifter per country per weight class rule is a good one or not.

Even with the significant cap on total lifters in 2024, capping it at 3 lifters per country per gender can mean we miss out on legitimate medal contenders at the Olympics.

Song Kuk Hyang's 154 WR has to be one of the heaviest 2nd attempts in women's lifting history.

The old 69kg women's C&J record was 157kg.

Not much else to say really. I'm not sure where all this ends.
