Chit-chat thread
Re: Chit-chat thread
Any of you Canadian folk attending Canadian Nationals next month? I will be attending for the first time, would be good to say g'day.
Re: Chit-chat thread
I would not put it past the IWF to create new world standards for classes which won't change in August.
Re: Chit-chat thread
W86 individual lifts could be done by Peng Cuiting & peaked Liang Xiaomei, but yeah not the total. Koanda NOR doesn't seem to improve. M60 snatch and maybe total by Wang Hao, but CHN won't bother. Also yes, can't see the 110+ total get taken any time soon.
Re: Chit-chat thread
I forget Peng Cuiting is part of the national team now. Agreed that she can break the snatch WR, and CJ theoretically possible from Xiaomei or Koanda. Would need a clean and jerk specialisation program most likely, and total has no chance.
Koanda is the exception to the rule of benefiting from a non super heavier than 86kg category, along with potentially a Wang Zhouyu etc.
110+ snatch and total are a Lasha special. Unless one of the Armenians goes on a snatch specialisation cycle, I can't see it being broken. Total, no hope with the current crop of lifters.
I would rather see excessively low standards that result in "undeserving" world records than unbroken records.

The Central American Games will be held in August but list the old categories (page 14).

Sooo... how is this supposed to work in WL? With Athletics and Swimming you have persistent records because events have remained the same (ignoring minor things like javelin).
I'm assuming there will be weight classes? So which records will they attempt to break? A current 110 WR is easier than a 105 WR. And if they want to provide evidence for the superiority of the "enhanced" part, will they tackle the 1992 numbers?
Even apart from any ethical concerns, this doesn't seem well thought out so far. Unless you only have an open/SHW category.

Re: Chit-chat thread
We have seen better and more exciting domestic and B/C session competitions. I have no words to describe how bad the entire event was. No one seemed thrilled to be on the stage. There were no actual bodyweights listed, and to act that Leidy performed well by lifting 2kg more than she did 7 years ago while being at least 20-30kg heavier is so misplaced. Kitts' 185 snatch is the only lift that looked enhanced, none of the other attempts were even close to competitive. Arley ... no words. No one had that dog in them.
Then the other events were just as sad. Why did we have a preliminary for the 100m when we only had 6 competitors? Neither heat performed better than the first prelims of a World or Olympic championship. The amount of false starts in the "final" 100m is wild.
